A FAULT ZONE OF MARS, 9×12”, watercolor and ink on cotton, painted July 2023. My interpretation of a HiRISE image of fault-crossed rock formations on #Mars.
“This image of northern Meridiani Planum shows faults that have disrupted layered deposits… some of the faulting occurred while the layered deposits were still soft and could undergo deformation, whereas other faults formed later when the layers must have been solidified and produced a clean break.”

As a long-time fan of the Dune franchise, I was absolutely delighted by Legendary’s Dune, Part One, and when I heard Dune, Part Two was greenlighted, I painted the formidable Shai-Hulud of Arrakis. I do like the prominent (and plentiful) fangs on this version’s sandworm…

This is a view of Space Shuttle Atlantis as it’s displayed at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex—the same view we had when my dear fiancé proposed to me in May. In the background, where the projection screen would be, I’ve loosely rendered a view of auroras over the earth as seen from the ISS (view photo). This will always be a special place for us!
